I've been finding lately that solely relying on design styles is very limiting when decorating and designing. I need a wider variety of descriptor words to really hone in on my clients' designs. My goal isn't just to create a look for clients, but also a certain feel and experience. Rather, my process is to use a set of words to create their own unique design vibes.
Insert my Design Vibes freebie. It's essentially a word bank-- you select words that resonate with you in order to create the look, feel, and experience you want for your space. The words you choose become the foundation for your own unique design vibes. Let me show you some examples of designs and the specific words I used to achieve that vibe. Read on for more detailed information on my process, and to get your own copy of my Design Vibes freebie if you haven't already!

This is a brand new design I've been working on--I presented it to clients a few days ago. They love plants and nature, enjoy visiting National Parks. They also told me they don't love overly fashionable furniture. I used these tidbits of information to select words and phrases like "nature-inspired" and created the vibe you see here. I can't wait to see this design come to life!

My client and I started this project with a very important agreement: navy is a neutral! It's such a classic, timeless color, and that was our goal for this design: to be classic and timeless. I started with the fun pattern you see in this vision board and planned the rest around that. I knew already that the vanity would be navy, and then pulled in a lighter blue color from the fabric for the wall color (using my color match tool). We used the fabric for a valance and also framed it for wall art. Such a stunning space!

As some of you know, I was recently forced to get rid of my beloved, colorful porch chairs (they fell apart and were just getting old). One thing I loved about them were the vibrant colors against our dark teal house. I wanted to make sure I incorporated that look into the new design. I went a little bit more neutral with the seating, but made sure it would be comfy + cozy. Then added bright colorful pillows and a fun pink rug for more color infusion. My porch area is a well loved spot in our home, but now even more so.

This medspa will always be one of my favorite designs. THE VIBES! The minute my client, Juno Medspa, said the word moody to me, I was sold. I love the words + descriptions she gave me for her vision. It was fun being creative to create the vibes you see here. Juno was a Roman goddess, a queen, a warrior, a protector. She was associated with love + marriage, youth and energy. Truly a perfect name for a medspa!

This project was for a repeat client--loved getting the opportunity to work with them again. They wanted modern coastal, with a chill and relaxed environment. The best part of this design process was when our mural wallpaper selection dimensions didn't work out--you read that right--that was the best part! We decided to have a local artist, Okieart859, design and paint a custom mural to fit these vibes insteaad. It turned out beautifully! Check out the end result here.
I hope you were able to see the power of how a handful of carefully chosen words translate into intentional designs. Still need your own copy of the Design Vibes freebie? Get it here, then share your words/vibe with me! I'd love to hear about it.
