Office Design Reveal

Writer: Bre OrioloBre Oriolo

A few months ago you first heard about my new office and the evolution of how we got here. I wrote a blogpost called "My New Office: 5 Ways" because this is literally the 5th concept I've had for a home office. In this concept, we are putting a living room addition onto our home, and our current living room will become my office. While the crew is hard at work with demo of our current deck + framing out the new deck and addition, I'm designing my dream office and making big plans. Read on to see all my design choices.

Office Design: Branding

I knew immediately that I would want to incorporate my brand's colors into my office design. Pinks, creams, taupes. I have Michelle Marie Design Studio to thank for an amazing brand color palette. Every color is accounted for in the new design. Pink will show up in the wallpaper (you know wallpaper is a priority for me) and desk. The bottom half paneling around the room will be painted taupe, and I have some taupe marble showing up in the coffee table for the guest area. There will be two guest chairs in white/cream. I didn't want the space to be too dark, but the desk surface will have even incorporate black streaks.

Office Design: The Vibes

Of course I used my new Design Vibes freebie to create the vibe of my new office. Here are the words I came up with: curated, elegant, feminine, fierce, interesting, layered, and soft. I hope each of those words come alive for you in the vision board I share at the end of this post. The vibes have to be just right in this space if I'm going to be working there every day.

York Wallcoverings Ferrandi wallpaper, pink

Office Design:

Wallpaper + Desk

Anyone who knows me knows my love of all things tigers, leopards, etc.! It actually took me a long time to pick out a wallpaper. I knew I wanted pink. I was searching and searching, not finding THE one. It wasn't until I chose the word "fierce" on my Design Vibes freebie that I was able to narrow in on a wallcovering. When I saw this, I knew right away that this would give

Paige Dorsey snake

me the fierceness I was craving in the space. Oh and this snake I bought from Paige Dorsey. Can't decide if she'll hang out on my desk or one of my shelves. She's going to need a name at some point.

pink onyx slab

The desk. I want a pink marble or similar stone. Right now I'm thinking of doing a custom desk: I want a waterfall style with the stone on the top and going down one side, with a gold cylinder post (or silver--I'm really into mixing my golds + silvers right now) on the other side. This is something else it took me forever to decide on. Although I knew I wanted a pink stone, picking out THE one was challenging. This is something I'm going to be super picky about. That pink is too bright. That stone has too much black veining in it. I don't like how chaotic that marble looks. These are all the thoughts swimming in my head as I try to find something I'm in love with. What you see above is a pink onyx and I just love the striations and smooth, flowing movement within it. Now I just need to get moving on getting it custom made.

tan leather desk chair with chrome

I am loving this taupe-y brown color right now, but honestly was drawn to this chair more for the chrome metal on it. This comes as such a surprise to me because I am a gold girly through and through. And mixing gold + silver? Who am I?!

fur accent rug

I was originally thinking of a rug for the space (and still might use one), but with the awkward shape of this room, I'm rethinking that. I know I want texture, so this fur rug is a must in front of the desk.

Office Design: Lighting

Hudson Valley Lighting Broomley Pendant

You should always have multiple sources of lighting in a space. I've had my eye on this pendant for a while, but mostly I picture it in a set of two or three over an island. Once it dawned on me that it could work for my office, I got all excited! My desk will not be centered in the room, so I'm going to swag it to position it over my desk. I think the swag will look stunning.

House of Hackney Pink Anaconda lampshade

I'm using a floor lamp that I had from my previous house, but I'm changing out the shade to this. Brings in some pink from my branding color palette, has feminine curves, and some fierce snakes. And although "vintage" wasn't one of the words I selected from my Design Vibes freebie, I always love mixing in a vintage style to designs.

Office Design: Guest Seating

Universal Furniture curved Shannon chair, cream

This is another piece that I've had my eye on for years, and so happy I could incorporate it into this design. The curves on this give it a more feminine feel. I've given this a sit test several times at market, too, and it's so comfy! Plus, do you see that chrome finish on the legs?

marble coffe table

I want a table in the guest seating area. I may have to scale down from this, but I'm drawn to the brown marble and it brings in the tan color from my branding palette.

If I end up having to go smaller, I want something similar to this. Gorgeous!

Office Design: Window Treatments

sheer curtains

Well, I never thought I'd want sheers for window treatments. Until I saw these at High Point Market in the spring. They remind me of leopard spots, which is why I love them so much.

sheer curtains up close

Here's a close-up so you can see the pattern.

I'll also add Roman shades to the windows because 1) I love layered looks, and 2) this room gets quite a bit of sun. Although I've figured out a lot for this office design, the fabric for the Roman shades is stumping me. I know I want it to be pink/have pink in it, but just not sure I've found THE one, yet.

office design moodboard

Well, there you have it. My (mostly) completed office design. There are still a lot of logistical things we will need to do to transition our current living room into my office. We will add French doors where the entry is, and close the access to the kitchen off more...but will still have a door there. Lots of painting and wallpapering to do, but first I think we are going to attempt to remove old wallpaper. When we moved here, the upper portion of the walls were painted. I painted over them, but then started noticing some bubbling in spots. We think someone painted over wallpaper. We will be finding out soon! I'll be sure to document, haha! Stay tuned...
