Why Vibes Matter

When I first started planning for our addition, I was focused intently on seating. Our current living room has limited seating and an awkward layout. In the new space, I could get about 6-7 seats with a long sofa, short sofa, and two accent chairs. I loved what I picked out for the different seating, so I didn't think about it much beyond that--until later, when I started thinking more about how I wanted to use the space.

The addition will be the space we'll hang out in the most. What I keep envisioning is sitting by this beautiful window and listening to records. Or reading books, take your pick. I call this "Sunday morning vibes." It's what my very first vision of this space started with. The short sofa was slated to be by this window. But that's not how I pictured myself lounging by the window, listening to records and reading books. I pictured myself sprawled out on a chaise, looking out the window. I took the short sofa out of my rendering and replaced it with a chaise. Sure, I'd lose a seat in the process, but I'd gain a better view of the window and beyond plus more vibes!

I remembered this chaise from fall market. It was so comfortable. I wished I had a spot for it because I loved it so much. And now I do! I'll get it in the same fabric + color as my sofa (a cinnamon brown color).

It's going to be the ultimate "Sunday morning vibes" room. We'll have a fireplace, too, which will only add to this whole vision + dream. If you're new to "design vibes," it's something I created after finding that solely relying on design styles can be very limiting. I need a wider variety of descriptor words to really hone in on my clients' designs. My goal isn't just to create a look for clients, but also a certain feel and experience. Rather, my process is to use a set of words to create their own unique design vibes.

Insert my Design Vibes freebie. It's essentially a word bank-- you select words that resonate with you in order to create the look, feel, and experience you want for your space. The words you choose become the foundation for your own unique design vibes. Get your updated copy here.
